this is lightblade dakren'ke, the current empress of the sunifee empire. this...wasnt exactly a planned picture. i wanted to draw a sunifee, and expected one of the ones i know to show up. instead, i got the empress, who i hadnt met before.

now, i dont know too much yet, but heres what ive been told. the empress holds the position for life, and a successor is choosen from one of three imperial houses (or families). the candidate must be at least 10 years old, and must have the hereditary colors of that family. other than that, may the best one win.

as you could guess, the sunifee have a fairly martial history. i mean, lookit that sword. that thing can put the klingons to shame.

NOTE: i tried something new on this. the black coloring was done referencing =Lyanti's 'how to color black fur' tutorial: [link] . it...didnt work, but this does look a hell of a lot better in real life. i hope i can find a white pen so i can maybe save it. (such a thing doesnt seem to exist)

You know what I love? How you describe the details with things like 'this is what I have been told.'

That is EXACTLY how I explain the details about my own worlds. I almost think of myself more as a lucky person who is privy to the lives of my characters, than as a creator of them. Sometimes... often, in the case of my character Kket... they do not choose to tell me things. And sometimes I learn little tidbits about certain characters from other characters! Weird. But I like to know that I'm not the only one :)

oh yes. these people will just pop up, usually when im busy, and start talking. makes it a lot easier to figure stuff out though.

I'm actually impressed. I'll have to take a look at that 'how to color black' tutorial, but if it didn't work, then dang, if it did, this would be REALLY amazing! I can actually see some shading that you tried with the technique I bet. That is one massive sword that I would not want to mess with, that's for sure. Love it!
